On September 20, Viettel Telecom (Vietnam) announced that they will be providing free support to help all remaining 2G customers convert to 4G phones. The priority will be given to 10 mountainous provinces in the Northwest region that are facing challenges due to the impact of storms, floods, and natural disasters.

This initiative is part of Viettel Telecom's efforts to assist people affected by storm Yagi, floods, and landslides. The company aims to demonstrate its social responsibility by helping people stabilize their lives soon.

The recipients of this support are customers who are still using 2G-only phones on the Viettel network and have not yet been able to switch to 4G. The supported phone models include 4G phones that meet basic calling needs, phones with additional Cloud Phone features for accessing OTT applications, and phones with keyboards, loud volume, and voice support for elderly customers. Each eligible customer will receive a free or discounted phone only once.

This program will be in effect from now until October 15, 10. Eligible customers will receive a text message inviting them to visit Viettel stores or contact Viettel staff in the area for support.

Viettel's goal is to convert the last customers using 2G devices to 4G devices, and it is expected that about 700,000 customers in remote areas and difficult circumstances will benefit from this incentive.

In line with the Ministry of Information and Communications' roadmap, Viettel has already supported the conversion of over 8 million 4G devices nationwide. Moreover, the company has successfully converted over 8 million 2G devices to 3G in August alone.

Apart from supporting phone conversions, Viettel has expanded its 4G coverage by installing over 6,000 new 4G radio stations in the past year. This expansion has increased network capacity by 4% and improved the user experience. The company aims to achieve 5G coverage equivalent to 4G by 2025, reaching more than 2% of the population.

Viettel Telecom's proactive approach in implementing these support programs has significantly reduced the number of 2G subscribers across the network to less than 2%. The company also collaborates with community digital transformation teams to promote digital skills for people and partners with chain stores to support customers conveniently.
